Seven years earlier, VBKOM operated from a handful of desks in a single office. What began as a compact workspace gradually became a place that staff regard as a second home.

VBKOM Consulting Engineers was established in 2008 by five founders with a clear idea of what they wanted to build. On 3 July, the team marked VBKOM’s eighth anniversary as a unified company, celebrating the progress made since those early days.

The Internal Launch and Staff Celebration

The internal launch set the tone for the occasion. Balloons lined the staircase, the VBKOM cake took centre stage, and employees gathered to acknowledge the company’s development. Lunch opened the event at midday, followed by a team challenge where groups solved clues to uncover a final winning card. The activity encouraged teamwork and healthy competition, with the white team completing their clues first.

The colour theme for the day was red, black, and silver. Welcome drinks added to the atmosphere, and both the marketing team and social committee delivered an event that felt considered and well-executed.

Looking Back and Looking Forward

During the celebration, CEO Maine reflected on VBKOM’s history, while director Eduan Pieterse outlined the long-term vision and direction for the company. Staff printed their hands in red paint and placed them on a canvas alongside the VBKOM logo, reinforcing a shared sense of commitment and unity.

The day concluded with cake and a video produced by the marketing team, highlighting employee opinions and light-hearted moments from across the office.
